And he's very open with me about everything, so it's not been a struggle for us to have 'talks' about anything, really. I think that MAY be due to the fact that it's ALWAYS only been him and I living together, no real family, you know? I have reconnected with a number of people I knew in high school & with whom I grew up that I hadn't seen nor heard from in 30+ years.

I would like FB better if the profile page could be customized. One of the main complaints I have though is FB's quirkiness. FB is very hostile to gamers who play games that require mass adding of friends to play, such as Mafia Wars. FB is also frequently very slow & the edit and find friends functions seldom work. It would be much more enjoyable if they would fix a few things.

Great to hear from you Nat! Either or, a noble thing to do, most difficult in this materialistic time.

Natalie my sweet friend, as to Nicholas of Myra, yes you're very accurate. The actual history scribed by his contemporaries is that one day, he found a man whose daughters had no money for their dowry thus no chance of marrying. In the night he dropped a purse of coins thru their window, and they awoke to the happy surprise. This started the practice of giving young people gifts on or near the birthday of Nicholas. Has nothing to do with Jesus. "Santa Claus" is just another name in another language for the same man, Nicholas. The tradition of Christmas giving has nothing at all to do with the birth of Jesus, it's the birth of St. Nicholas. Jesus's birth is still uncertain but it's generally believed to have been during the harvest season, or around October, using the Julian calendar. In my post I explain how the two got mixed together (Christmas, the birthday of St. Nicholas, became mixed with the birthday of Jesus) I know you know all this already lol. Thanks for stopping by to warm the heart of an old friend.

Mary: If you got your info from the Bible then you know it's hearsay, passed down thru many languages and lost in translations a thousandfold. Jesus never spoke one single word in the Bible. So I like your idea of just being humans who are kind and giving to one another, just for the sake of being decent and caring. The problem is, those who profit from keeping people separate, hating and waring with each other, don't want the world to be "a better place" they want it in chaos since that's how they continue to enrich themselves. Peace in our time is a dream, but we live in hope.

NamasteCathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13788060917420508410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6891488433620921031.post-17771339390404758452009-12-08T21:33:07.619-08:002009-12-08T21:33:07.619-08:00Remember Pearl Harbor. I wouldn't say "Happy" Pearl Harbor Day because I don't want to feel happy about the death of my fellow humans on that day. The sneak attack on Pearl Harbor wasn't about anything but hate and ignorance, like any invasive war. But thank you for remembering and bringing it to our attention that something DID happen this day not long ago. His apt is so small, though, that we opted to find a country restaraunt that was open on Thanskgiving Day. Cracker Barrel was open, and though the restaurant was full, we only had to wait 5 minutes to be seated. It was great to sit down to a meal with my family. I won't be seeing him for Christmas, so this day was even more important as family visits go. On Friday, we visited Gettysburg, PA... had a guided tour of the battleground. After hearing a two hour retelling of that bloody battle in 1863, we are very thankful to be where we are, and to be living in America. Sometimes we just take for granted the freedoms and options that we have in this world. I was without words after hearing about one single battle in our country's history.Beahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11879356290409283739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6891488433620921031.post-54666507316856352242009-11-29T11:25:52.674-08:002009-11-29T11:25:52.674-08:00Hi Nat! A nurse friend of mine suggested what to do if you are asleep, and wake up with heart attack symptoms: if one thinks one is having a heart attack: keep aspirin near your bed at night. Aspirin, not Tylenol. If you suspect you are having a heart attack, take an aspirin, drink some water, sit up, do not lie down, and unlock your door. Call 911 and tell them you took the aspirin. and wait for them to arrive. Simple... I'll try to find out more.Beahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11879356290409283739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6891488433620921031.post-13537385084365081542009-11-25T10:39:14.911-08:002009-11-25T10:39:14.911-08:00Wow, good to point this out - more lives have been...Wow, good to point this out - more lives have been saved by hypothermia than have been lost. It was an "accidental find" via drowning victims who were brought back. Consider all the tots who fell into cold icy rivers for over a half hour and lived, because the cold preserved their organs, forcing their circ system & heart to slow down.
